Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Brow Lamination?
Brow lamination is the process of “laminating” (also known as perming) the brows to grow in an upward, feather-like direction. This is a great option for those who struggle with brows that grow in a downward direction or have thin brows that won’t fill in. In essence, we are taking the bond of the hairs and reconstructing them with this treatment. So, ditch the brow gel and get fuller, fluffier brows that last 6-8 weeks! Option to add on a brow stain for a bolder look.
Who is Brow Lamination for?
Anyone looking to improve the overall look of their brow; with sparse brows; who are growing out their brows; not ready to commit to cosmetic tattoo; with unruly, coarse brows; with stubborn, natural hair growth patterns.
Are there any reasons why Brow Lamination may not be advisable to me?
Contraindications for Brow Lamination include but are not limited to: Psoriasis/Eczema; Recent eye surgery; Alopecia affecting the brow area; Recent permanent make up (must be healed by 6 weeks); Current sunburn; Ultra-sensitive skin; Blood thinners; Pink eye; Pregnant/nursing (consult your physician first), Accutane (consult your physician first).
What are the pre-care instructions?
-It is important for this area to be clean and free of makeup, pressed powders and moisturizers.
-For best results, please grow your eyebrow hairs and avoid threading/waxing/plucking for up to 4 weeks prior. No trimming for 6 weeks!
-Do not apply Retinol, Retin-A, BHA/AHA, or exfoliate 72 hours before your appointment as this may sensitive your skin. If you are planning on waxing, discontinue active ingredient products for 7 days.
What are the after-care instructions?
-Keep brows dry for 24 hours.
-Use the brow serum that’s included in your service every single day.
-Do not apply brow makeup or undertake further eye treatments for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
-Avoid swimming/sauna/working out for at least 24 hours.
-Do not allow prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat.
-Do not apply Retinol, Retin-A, BHA/AHA or exfoliate around the brow area for 72 hours.
-No self-tanning products should be used on the face for 48 hours prior and 48 hours after treatment.
How does Brow Lamination work?
Brow Lamination is done only in 3 steps: Styling the hair in the desired direction, laminating them with gentle solutions, and treating the hair with a hydrating formula for its health.
Can I get Brow Lamination if my brows are Microbladed?
As long as the Microblading has gone through its entire healing process (6-8 weeks), it will not affect the tattooed strokes. It will only take your already Microbladed brows to the next, like you were born with it, level.
Will Brow Lamination damage my brow hair?
Brow Lamination does not cause any long term damage to the brow hair. High quality products that I use have been custom formulated to be gentle on the hair and skin.
Does Brow Lamination hurt?
There is no discomfort at all associated with the procedure.
How long does Brow Lamination take?
Brow Lamination takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
Do different skin types react differently to Brow Lamination?
Brow Lamination is great for all skin types! Oilier skinned clients may see a slight decrease in shelf life due to the excess oil production in the skin.
How long will my Brow Lamination last?
Brow lamination lasts up to 8 weeks if proper care is taken during the 24 hours post procedure. Premature exposure to water, sweat, and/or steam can prevent the hairs from processing correctly. The growth cycle of eyebrow hair is typically 3 months. Once the brow hairs have completed their growth cycle, to ensure the integrity of the hair is well kept, receiving the treatment every 8 weeks is recommended.
What is a Lash Lift?
A Lash Lift is a lifting technique designed to give you longer-looking lashes without the need for lash extensions. It will look as if you used a really good eyelash curler, only this lift lasts for 6 to 8 weeks! To top off the treatment, you’ll have the option to add a black or blue-black lash stain (depending on the clients desired look) which will makes your lashes look more prominent. It really is an easy way to instantly brighten and open up the eye area!
What is the process of a Lash Lift?
The appointment itself boils down to three key steps. First, silicone shields are placed on the (closed) eyelids. Your lashes are then lifted to the shields and a serum is applied to them. This first serum is used to break down the protein in the lashes. The lashes are molded onto the shield, so it breaks down the lash to take shape. Next, a neutralizer is applied to the lashes which locks everything in place and begins the process of restoring the lashes and conditioning them. The tint is then applied to the lashes (if you have chosen to add this onto your treatment). Finally, a coat of pure keratin is applied to the lashes, which provides an extra layer of protein to strengthen and condition.
Does the Lash Lift procedure hurt?
No, the procedure is totally painless. You will have your eyes closed for the entire treatment and although it may feel a little strange being unable to open your eyes for this time, it offers you a chance to relax during the treatment. Most of my clients end up taking a little snooze.
How long will a Lash Lift last?
A Lash Lift can last 6-8 weeks but can vary from person to person. There is no need for any maintenance appointments in between but you will need to have the process repeated every 6-8 weeks to lift the new hair growth. There are some situations that may cause the lift to drop/weaken prematurely such as swimming, use off harsh products or heat. If you find that your lift does not last the full 2 months, you can repeat the treatment after a minimum of 4 weeks of having the initial treatment, but not before.
How long does the service take?
About 45-50 minutes.
Will I have a reaction to the lotion?
Very few people have a reaction to the lotion but that doesn’t mean you won’t be one of them. What one person reacts to, another is fine with. This is why you can opt to have a patch test 24 hours beforehand. A patch test is quick and simple. It consists of us placing 2 drops of lotions behind the ear for 15 minutes. Wiping it off and waiting to see if any subsequent irritation occurs over the next 24 hours such as redness, itching or inflammation for example. I only do patch tests for clients who request them so PLEASE book a patch test separate from booking a lash lift.
I wear contact lenses, can I have this procedure?
Yes. However, I will ask you to remove them temporarily during the treatment as the eyes will be closed throughout.
Can I wear makeup after my lash lift?
Yes, but it is advised that you leave your lashes untouched for at least 24 hours after your treatment. You may find that there is no need for mascara anyway, but if you wish to make your lashes even fuller, a non-waterproof mascara is advised as the removal of waterproof mascaras can be harsh on the lashes and weaken the lift.
Is a Lash Lift similar to Lash Extensions?
Lash Lifts and Lash Extensions are two completely different services. Lash Extensions includes applying synthetic lashes to your natural lashes. With a Lash Lift, I will simply be curling and lifting your natural lashes.
Will a Lash Lift damage my natural lashes?
No. The lifting solutions are only applied to the new growth area of the lashes, down towards the base and up a bit. Never to the ends of the lashes.
Who is not a good candidate for a Lash Lift?
Chronic dry eye, conjunctivitis, damaged lashes or lashes with gaps (this treatment may make the gaps more noticeable), active eye infections of any kind, trichotillomania (habitual pulling out of lashes), recent chemo treatments (you will need to wait at least a year from your last treatment). When in doubt, always consult with your physician.
What are the pre-care instructions?
-Please make sure to arrive with no eye makeup on, if possible.
-If possible, skip caffeine the day of your appointment as it can cause your eyes to flutter and make you antsy.
-Make sure to eat something before your appointment. Nothing is worse than having to lay down for an hour + when your stomach is growling.
-If you wear contacts, they must be removed prior to the procedure.
What are the after-care instructions?
-Do not use waterproof mascara while you have your Lift. Waterproof mascaras are extremely drying and damaging to the lashes.
-No heat, steam, saunas, water, oils, lotions, creams, face wash, make up removers and wipes on lashes for a minimum of 24 hours. Please, plan to leave your lashes free and clear of everything at least for 24 hours.
-Oil make up removers do have a tendency to drop the curl a bit faster. Therefore, please, be aware that you may not get as long a time out of your Lift.
-Have your workout done prior to your appointment. Then please wait 24 hours after your Lift for your next workout.
-Within the first day or two your lashes are still malleable (shape shifting). A side sleeper/face sleeper can notice changes to the curl upon waking. Therefore, brush your lashes to straighten back out the curl pattern. As well as brushing them every morning after you wash your face, just to further encourage a consistent curl pattern and better grow out.
-As your Lash Lift grows out and your lashes are going through their normal growth cycles, you may notice (usually towards the 6th week or more) that some lashes are twisted over the the side and/or look a bit "frazzled". This is just the remains of the Lift growing out. This is NOT permanent and is NOT lash damage. Although in rare occasions adverse/allergic reactions can happen.
-If you experience any irritated and/or swollen eyes, rinse your eyes out throughly with water, take a Benadryl or anti histamine, and apply a cold compress. But DO NOT RUB your eyes as this will cause way more irritation. If this does not help, seek medical attention.
